[ARCHIVED] Incoming Storm: Heavy Rain, Strong Winds, and Flood Risk Expected

Main Street in Downtown Watsonville on a rainy day

A strong storm system bringing rainfall, gusty winds, and powerful waves is expected to move into our County as early as this evening.

The National Weather Service has issued a Flood Watch from 10 PM tonight through 10 PM Saturday. A Flood Watch means excessive rainfall could cause flooding. In Watsonville, we can expect up to three inches of rain and gusty winds reaching up to 60 mph during the next few days.

Those living in areas prone to flooding should be prepared to take action should flooding happen. Residents should also prepare for power outages, downed trees, and travel impacts. Please take the time to review your family preparedness plans, charge any communications devices, secure items on your property for wind impacts, and follow local news for updates.

As a reminder, two self-serve sandbag stations are available at:
• Joyce McKenzie Park, 500 Joyce Drive
• Fire Station 1, 115 2nd Street

• Joyce McKenzie Park, 500 Joyce Drive
• Estación de Bomberos 1, 115 2nd Street
