JANUARY 16, 8:43 PM:
Watsonville residents are being asked to close their windows and doors and turn off their air systems, as winds are now expected to bring smoke from the Moss Landing Power Plant fire into our area.

Residents should also limit their outdoor activities to reduce exposure to smoke.

The fire started earlier this afternoon in our neighboring county and has been burning for several hours. Monterey County officials are also advising the public to avoid the Moss Landing area for safety reasons and to allow first responders to carry out their work.

We will share more information as details become available.
