[ARCHIVED] Watsonville City Council Reaffirms Commitment to Immigrant Community

The Watsonville City Council has unanimously voted to adopt a resolution that maintains Watsonville as a Sanctuary City and reaffirms the City’s commitment to protecting and supporting our immigrant community. 

Last night’s action (January 14, 2025) came in response to recently proposed federal immigration policies and highlights our dedication to ensuring trust, safety, and access to resources for all residents, regardless of their immigration status.  

“I want every community member to know that they should never be afraid to contact us. If you need help, call us,” said Chief of Police Jorge Zamora. “Our Officers understand and respect our role as a Sanctuary City.” 

The City of Watsonville will continue to work with community partners to address the needs of our immigrant population, uphold inclusive policies, and maintain a sense of trust and safety.

El Concilio de Watsonville votó por unanimidad para adoptar una resolución que mantiene a Watsonville como una Ciudad Santuario y reafirma el compromiso de la Ciudad de proteger y apoyar a nuestra comunidad inmigrante. 

La acción de anoche (14 de enero de 2025) se produjo en respuesta a las políticas federales de inmigración propuestas recientemente y destaca nuestra dedicación a garantizar la confianza, la seguridad y el acceso a los recursos para todos los residentes, sin importar su estatus migratorio. 

"Quiero que todos los miembros de la comunidad sepan que nunca deben tener miedo de comunicarse con nosotros. Si necesita ayuda, llámenos", dijo el Jefe de Policía Jorge Zamora. "Nuestros Oficiales comprenden y respetan nuestro papel como Ciudad Santuario". 

La Ciudad de Watsonville continuará trabajando con socios comunitarios para abordar las necesidades de nuestra población inmigrante, defender políticas inclusivas y mantener un sentido de confianza y seguridad.
