[ARCHIVED] Flood Advisory issued for areas near City of Watsonville

UPDATE SUNDAY, January 1: Flood Advisory has been lifted. Aviso de inundación ha sido cancelada.

SATURDAY, December 31, 12:40PM 

Due to rising water levels along Salsipuedes and Corralitos creeks, a flood advisory has been issued for the following evacuation zones near the City of Watsonville:

The Pajaro River is not at risk of flooding at this time.


The flood advisory is being issued in advance of possible evacuations. Residents should prepare to leave should an evacuation alert be issued. Residents may look up
their evacuation zones at https://community.zonehaven.com 
The County Emergency Operations Center has been activated to monitor further impacts from the storm, including localized flooding and road impacts.

• In a flood, move to higher ground. Be aware of drainage channels and other areas known to flood suddenly.


• After a flood, stay away from downed power lines and designated disaster areas.


• Return home only when authorities indicate it is safe.


• If you encounter a flooded roadway, turn around and take another route. Roads underneath may be damaged and impassable. Don’t drive through floodwaters or around barricades. Only a few inches of water can sweep your vehicle off the road.


• Stay out of standing floodwater. The dirty water can disguise hazards below the surface, such as deep holes and dangerous debris.

El río Pájaro no está en riesgo de inundación en este momento. 


El aviso de inundación se emite antes de posibles evacuaciones. Residentes deben prepararse para irse en caso de que se emita una alerta de evacuación. Residentes pueden buscar sus zonas de evacuación en https://community.zonehaven.com
El Centro de Operaciones de Emergencia del Condado se activó para monitorear más impactos de la tormenta, incluyendo inundaciones localizadas e impactos en las carreteras.

• En una inundación, muévase a un terreno más alto. Tenga cuidado con los canales de drenaje y otras áreas que se sabe que se inundan repentinamente.

• Regrese a casa sólo cuando las autoridades indiquen que es seguro.
